How To Make A Picky Pad!

Two sizes of picky pads I made at home!

A picky pad is a fun sensory toy/activity for those who like to pick at their nails, skin, or clothes. It is made of craft silicone and beads. That’s it! The best part is you can make it at home, and once you have picked all the beads out, you can recycle them by creating another one! Here is how you can make a picky pad at home, with a link to where you can buy the materials needed.

NOTE: A picky pad has small pieces that could be dangerous if consumed. Please supervise using a picky pad around someone who puts items in their mouth.

How To Make

  1. Collect your materials

  2.  Mix equal parts of the two silicones into each other for about 5 minutes

    1.   you can use a kitchen scale to make sure you have exact amounts or just eyeball it

    2.  I use a disposable cup and popsicle stick to mix the silicone

  3.  Wipe your container with a thin layer of petroleum jelly

    1.  this step is optional, but I found it makes it easier to get out of the container when you're done

  4.  Put your first layer of beads in

  5.  Pour a thin layer of silicone to cover the beads

  6.  Put more beads on

  7.  Repeat steps four and five one to two more times, depending on how thick you want your picky pattern

  8.  Let it sit overnight

  9.  Take the picky pad out of the container

    1.  I use a butter knife or chopsticks

    2.  Please make sure only an adult does this part

  10.  Pick away!
